To mark the end of the first calendar year of The Temperance Club – our 3 founders Daniel, Liam and Joe share some of their most enjoyable and memorable alcohol free drinks that they tasted and reviewed this year.

Daniel's Favourites

What's been your favourite drink of 2020?

I love bittersweet, herby and citrus-infused spirits so Verbena by Bax Botanics was my personal favourite of the year.

What was the most surprising drink?

Livener by Three Spirit. From the taste to the functional ingredients right through to the branding, the whole Three Spirit range stands alone in its individuality.

What drink was most similar to its full alcoholic original?

It has to be Kopparberg Strawberry & Lime, in a blind taste test I challenge anyone to accurately distinguish the difference.

Liam's Favourites

What's been your favourite drink of 2020?

Wilfred's Aperitif, it was so good that I had to buy a few more bottles. It felt like having a traditional Aperol Spritz but with a bit more bitterness and depth.

What was the most surprising drink?

Nightcap by Three Spirit. Starting The Temperance Club, I thought we would be mainly drinking alternatives to existing alcoholic beverages. So I was surprised when we reviewed the Three Spirit range, the flavour and texture of Nightcap as well as the whole drinking experience was nothing like I had experienced before.

What drink was most similar to its full alcoholic original?

Stella Artois 0.0. I was never fond of Stella Artois so didn't have the greatest expectations for Stella Artois 0.0. However, I was pleasantly surprised. When ice-cold it tasted and felt very similar to the original, just without the traditional foamy head. I've recommended this to many friends instead of Beck's Blue.

Joe's Favourites

What's been your favourite drink of 2020?

With so many great drinks it's tough to single out one, but Everleaf sticks out to me as one of my most memorable aperitifs.

What was the most surprising drink?

Not one but two drinks really. The way ISH Spirits use spices in GinISH and RumISH to give their drinks the alcohol-like kick has really set the benchmark for tasting experience.

What drink tastes like it's original alcoholic version best?

American Malt by Lyre's. Although not quite a carbon copy, I think most whisky and bourbon drinkers would love this as an alcohol-free alternative. Hats off to Lyre's for capturing the malty, smoky and vanilla-like flavours here.
